Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 Offers 75% Faster Charging For Your Mobile
Surprisingly, your device may already support the new charging standard.
The last time we heard about quick charging as a smartphone feature, it was from Oppo’s Find 7 flagship. Clearly Oppo knew about the upcoming standard and implemented it as a feature for its yet to be launched Find 7 (the Find 7a is currently available). But even though the Oppo is powered by a Snapdragon SoC, it uses a completely different charging unit (VOOC) to achieve the same charge times as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. Well, Qualcomm has now announced that hardware partners will be supporting the new feature soon in their chargers and other OEM equipment which is good news indeed for owners running a Snapdragon-powered device.
To put it in simple words, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipsets already have the functionality built in at the chip-level and the company is now taking advantage of those extra ICs that they integrated a year ago.
Quick Charging will only be possible with the help of the right charger and obviously your device will have to be powered by a Snapdragon 800, 600 or 400 series processor. OEMs will soon be enabling the new standard in their charging hardware and you will soon be able to purchase a Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger from your local retailer.
As mentioned earlier, some companies have already implemented the same in recently release smartphones. Among the privileged list are handsets including the Sony Xperia Z2, HTC One (M8), Xiaomi Mi3, Samsung GALAXY S5 (Japanese version only), Sharp Aquos Zeta and the Fujitsu Arrows NX. Among the tablets, there is again the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet and the Sharp Aquos Tab as well.
For now, the certified accessories seem to be available mainly in China, but expect the same to be available from your local brand, at your local retailer soon.
