Apple To Roll Out iOS 8 Post-September; No Support For The iPhone 4
It isn't surprising that Apple is stopping support for the iPhone 4, especially after it stopped selling the device
Apple gave the world a first look at the iOS 8 at the end of Monday's keynote event, and announced that the new mobile OS will be rolled out this fall (Sept. 22 – Dec. 21). The company however made it clear that iOS 8 will not be available for the iPhone 4, bringing an end to major support and upgrades for the device.
The list of compatible devices included the iPhones models - 4S and up, the 5th generation iPod Touch and all the iPad 2 and up. Inclusion of the iPad 2 in the list of supported devices is quite odd, given that the device is quite old now.
While Apple did not go into full details about the new features of iOS 8, it did show off revamped notification features, a new QuickType keyboard that adds predictive typing suggestions, an enhanced Messages app, a new Healthkit app that aggregates health-related metrics, improvements to Siri, and many more features.
Apple recently phased out the iPhone 4 from sales in India, just four months after the phone was re-launched in the market. It's become clear that the company did so because it didn't plan to offer support for the device any longer. iOS 7 was the last major update for the iPhone 4, which saw significant performance upgrades with the roll out of iOs 7.1.
