Update: Microsoft Promises To Solve WhatsApp Issue On Windows Phone
Apparently WhatsApp had an issue with notifications on Windows Phone 8.
Joe Belfiore, VP and Manager for Windows Phone Program Management at Microsoft (boy that’s a long title) finally took to Twitter and explained to Windows Phone users around the world about why WhatsApp was pulled down from the Store. Ideally this should have been WhatsApp giving a clear cut explanation (which they did in a way) about the same, but there is a reason for that.
WhatsApp was supposedly having major issues with the notifications system on Windows Phone 8. Moreover, these issues multiplied when many users downloaded and installed the latest Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview. The developer preview was built mainly for devs to test their existing apps with the new Windows Phone update. But everyone evidently wanted to try it out, leading to more issues on Windows Phone handsets.
For those w Q’s on Whatsapp: they pinged us about an issue that popped on notifications, we’re working with them on a fix. More info soon

Ps - the notifications core in wp8.1 is different than wp8. The WhatsApp issue is in wp8 upd3. How's your wp8.1 notifications experience?

Joe Belfiore tweeted that WhatsApp approached Microsoft for help and that both are working together to get the world’s most popular messaging platform back to Windows Phone users. He also commented that the notifications core in Windows Phone 8.1 is a lot different than WP8.0.
Now that Microsoft themselves have confirmed that the issue will be resolved soon, we think you can go ahead with that colourful Lumia 630 purchase after all. For those of you who are facing issues with WhatsApp on older Lumia devices, we suggest you just bear with it, till the new app update comes online.
