Details Of The Sony Xperia Z3 Surface; Expect An Announcement In August 2014
Hardware specifications apart, the Z3 is said to bring in some high-tech scratch-resistant coating.
Kurozumi Yoshiro, Sony Mobile Creative Director in an interview with the Japanese media earlier stated Sony does not want to adhere to a single design for a long time. Post that he clearly stated that Sony will be releasing flagships every six months to keep its products fresh and ahead of the competition.
Well, fresh news has surfaced stating that Sony is busy designing its upcoming Sony Xperia Z3 flagship. The Z2 was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year, so we should expect something fresher with a complete redesign by August.
A Chinese website IT168 has acquired some images of what it claims to be one of the Xperia Z3’s construction components. The metal band (as seen in the image below) will supposedly wrap around the chassis of device which is said to bring in some new tech to the smartphone industry.
The Xperia Z3’s metal chassis will supposedly sport PVD coating technology. PVD is the abbreviation of Physical Vapour Deposition; a process that will let Sony coat its metal chassis with anything from titanium to a number of exotic metals that will give the final product a mirrored stainless steel look. The process is similar to the coating of heavy duty industrial machinery such as drill bits, that come coated with titanium and other metals. The idea is to make the device scratch-resistant and stronger, while minimizing environmental impact during the manufacturing process.
The device is said to come with a Full HD screen (yes apparently Sony will not be going QHD) and powered by a Snapdragon 805 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. The camera would remain a 20.7MP shooter as well. Insider sources also pointed out that Sony would be positioning the Xperia Z3 as a luxury product similar to the Nokia 8800.
Obviously we should take such information with a pinch of salt as there is no way to verify the source of the information until we get some official confirmation from Sony.
