First LG-Made Google Silver Handset To Launch In February 2015; To Sport A 64-Bit Snapdragon 810 SoC
Will Android be shifting to high-end hardware only?
EvLeaks has reported that LG will be making the first Google Silver handset and that the product indeed will be announced in February 2015. What is more interesting is that the handset will sport the Qualcomm MSM8994 which may find its way in the form of the Snapdragon 810 SoC. Which such a big leap, will Google be shifting its priorities from mid-range handsets to premium devices?
There has not been a lot of news about Google’s Silver; a program that involves devices built by a number of manufacturers according to Google’s specifications and will run pure Android software with minimum bloatware. That was of course until now. EvLeaks recently took to twitter tweeting about a new Google Silver device that will be announced in Feb early next year.
The device is said to run a new generation of SoC (system on a chip) built by Qualcomm called the Snapdragon 810 which is supposed to come with eight 64-bit custom cores with up to 4MB of cache and up to 2.50GHz frequency. The processor is said to pack in an Adreno 430 graphics core with up to 500MHz clock-rate and a LPDDR3/LPDDR4 memory controller as well.
With so much horsepower that comes with such a big leap, it seems that Google wants to go the Apple way and produce high-end Android devices with little focus on mid-range phones. Even with software policies in place, manufacturers time and again, use out-dated hardware and run older versions of Android, ruining the image of the Android UI.
Google knows that there is a market for high-end Android devices, and that the smartphones like the GALAXY S5, Xperia Z2 and the HTC One (M8) sell in the millions. So after spending years making mid-range devices may be its time that Google went the Apple way and shifted to premium devices only to keep software and hardware in sync for a smoother Android experience.
