Intex Launches The Aqua i5 HD Smartphone In India For Rs 9,990
Comes with a 5-inch HD display, quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, all for under 10K.
Indian smartphone manufacturer Intex has announced the launch of the 'Aqua i5 HD' priced at Rs 9,990, in an effort to grow its share in the sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone market. The device will run Google's Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS out of the box, but the company has promised to roll out an update to KitKat by the end of June.
The Aqua i5 HD is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, and true to its HD monicker features a 5-inch 720p display with OGS technology. In terms of memory, the phone comes with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage with the option to expand that to 32GB via a microSD card.
"This is one of the finest smartphone in the sub-Rs 10,000 league in the Indian smartphone market. There is a lot of activity that you see in this category. We will continue to bring innovative devices in this hugely popular category," said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head at Intex, in an ET report.
Apart from this, the Aqua i5 HD features a 13MP primary camera at the rear, along with a 5MP front-facing camera, perfect for selfies. It comes equipped with a 2,000mAh battery which should make for a full days use without needing to plug up.
On paper at least the Intex Aqua i5 HD comes with some compelling specifications for its price. It's closest competitor will probably be the Motorola Moto G, but costs over Rs 2,500 less. It however is too early to make any comparisons, as the Intex phone will really need to perform well in the real world to make a dent in the market.
Intex sold just over 1.5 million handsets in the Indian market last year. The company is hoping to grow this number significantly with no less than eight new smartphones in the next quarter. Intex also confirmed it will also launch the Aqua i5 HD Mini that ships with a smaller 4.5-inch next week, without divulging on the device's price.
