Microsoft Fixes A Few Bugs In Windows Phone 8.1 Preview Via An Update
Will Windows Phone 8.1 bridge the gap between iOS and Android?
Microsoft has just released an update for its developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1. The update as brought to light by Joe Belfiore, brings minor bug fixes and some much needed battery life improvements to the already well-performing OS.
Microsoft is indeed hard at work these days, in fact they should be. If everything goes according to schedule, the final release of Windows Phone 8.1 after a few more updates should happen on the 24th of June.
The update even though not as massive as the jump from Windows Phone 7 to 8, will still bring a lot of improvements and newer API’s for developers to play around with. As expected we are gradually now seeing some really interesting new apps thanks to the developer’s preview that is already out in the wild. Movie editing apps which were literally unheard of have suddenly started to appear in the Windows Phone Store as well. Not forgetting the upcoming file manager app which is under development by the devs at big M itself.
All of this just goes to show that Windows Phone 8.1 is not just about scrollable background wallpapers or Cortana (only in the US for now) but some seriously brand new software additions as well. Microsoft just seems to be opening its doors wider with every Windows Phone update. We have SD card support, Bluetooth sharing and a notifications center; features we normally saw only on Android. Additions that will hopefully help bridge the gap between the closed walls of iOS and the fragmented flexibility of Android.
