Apple's iPhone 6 Could Hit Store Shelves As Early As August

Expected to come in two different sizes, the smaller one will launch in August and the other in September.

Apple will unveil the latest iteration of its iPhone in August, a month earlier than analysts and industry watchers have been expecting, according to Taiwanese media reports.

The iPhone 6 will indeed come in two different display sizes, Apple adopting a similar strategy to it iPad range of tablets. According to the Economic Daily News, the 4.7-inch version of the device will reach store shelves in August, while the 5.5 or 5.6-inch variant will be launched in September.

The leak emerged from people familiar with Apple's supply chain, similar to the earlier leak which claimed that the phone will come in two different sizes. The report adds that Apple has placed an order for 80 million units of the iPhone 6 to be manufactured by the end of this year alone.

Launching the iPhone in two display sizes will help Apple better compete with manufacturers like Samsung, LG and Sony who've been gaining huge traction in the phablet market. Moreover, the market is divided between using phones with ever increasing screen sizes and regular iPhone 5S sized phones, both of which are massive.

Apple couldn't go any further by ignoring the market for phones with larger screens, but their reluctance to make the jump could be in the fear of the iPhone 6 eating into the iPad Mini's sales. While that happening is still a huge possibility, Apple may have been swayed to put all its eggs into the iPhone basket after the iPad performance was dismal in the previous quarter.
