Sony’s Xperia Z2 Smartphone Sees A Launch Almost A Month After Its Competitors In India
Is Sony too late in the flagship game with LG preparing to announce its beastly G3?
Sony has finally announced the much-awaited Xperia Z2 a flagship smartphone that Indian buyers have been waiting for a very long time. The phone brings nothing new to the game in terms of specs, but basically improves upon Sony’s previous Z1 which came with a lot of issues. The handset will be available in black, white and purple and will be priced at Rs 49,990 starting the 12th of May.
The latest flagship packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor which powers a pixel dense 5.2 inch 1920 x 1080 Live Colour LED display which is a first for Sony. The display takes care of the horrible glare issues that were faced by Xperia Z1 owners making the screen impossible to read at an angle. The Z2 comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which is expandable via a microSD card slot.
The phone’s main feature has to be the 20.7 MP camera which has been improved upon vastly in terms image processing. The camera is said to deliver lower noise levels and improved contrast and has already been recommended by DxoMark Mobile as the best smartphone camera in the market.
Perhaps what will attract buyer towards the device is Sony’s inclusion of noise-cancelling technology which comes built into the device. Also, the IP55 / IP58 rating for dust and water resistance along with a large 3200mAh battery certainly make for even more reasons to go in for the Xperia Z2.
Since Sony is already late to the game, they are attracting buyers with offers and bundles which somehow aren’t needed when it comes to such a stunning flagship. Sony will offer a protective cover worth Rs 2,990 along with a smartband worth Rs 5,990 absolutely free. Moreover, the company will also offer Accidental Damage Protection for 6 months and even include six Hollywood movies for you to watch on your brand new Xperia smartphone for free.
What remains to be seen is how many buyers will actually fall for Sony’s flagship, considering that LG G3 which is rumoured to sport a QHD screen and a beefier Snapdragon 805 processor seems to dominate all flagships currently available. While Sony took three whole months to launch its flagship, Samsung and HTC already seemed to have roped in plenty of buyers here in India. With QHD specd smartphones in clear sight and OPPO also planning to launch its well-built Find 7 flagship, it seems that Sony is indeed a bit too late to the game.
