Samsung’s Design Chief Resigns; Low GALAXY S5 Sales To Blame

If you hate Samsung’s GALAXY design theme, this is definitely the guy you are after.

Samsung’s head of mobile design, Chang Dong-hoon has finally resigned with the young Lee Min-hyouk holding the fort for Samsung Electronics’ mobile division. It seems that Chang Dong-hoon willingly offered to step down after Samsung execs pointed out poor sales of the companys new GALAXY S5 flagship handset.

Just breathed a sigh of relief? Well there is still bad news for you. Lee Min-hyouk, the VP for Mobile Design at Samsung will be replacing Chang. So if you thought that this will finally be the end of Samsung’s bad design themes; well, we think that cheap faux-leather back design will be prolonged for a little longer.

This is because Lee Min-hyouk had also played a major role in designing the GALAXY series of devices which although saw massive sales figures, were also accompanied by an equal number of lawsuits. The patent battle has been going on for quite some time, between the two smartphone giants—Apple and Samsung. Currently, the lack of legal fees seems to be the only factor slowing them down in what seems to be a never ending battle.

Back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Samsung clearly failed to wow the audiences with their brand-new GALAXY S5 flagship smartphone. Standard hardware with a lack of innovation coupled with an equally boring design theme seems to have killed it for Samsung. Let’s just hope that Lee changes his ways and starts a new wave of design ideologies that will help bring out some refreshed designs from Samsung in the years to come.
