Microsoft Is Working On A File Manager For Windows Phone 8.1 Devices
The company announced that the full-fledged file manager will be launched as early as this month.
If you are an Android user and have always felt that Windows Phone lacks user control when it comes to the file system, well then you have one less feature to crib about. Yes, Microsoft is actually working on a File Manager for Windows Phone 8.1 devices. What’s more is that it will be out for download as early as this month.
Windows Phone users have always wanted that little extra bit of control over their devices. Not access to system files, but simply to copy, paste and manage the folders that exist on their memory cards. After a long number of requests, Microsoft being a proactive company it always was; decided to actually build a file manager themselves which will soon be available as an app.
The software company took to Reddit and posted screenshots of what appears to be a well-designed, Modern UI-themed file manager; one which allows for basic functions and gives access to files on the phone and memory card as well.
What caught our attention is not the fact that they finally built one, but the attention to detail and how neatly the folders and files are displayed in a minimalistic form. Every folder is represented by a tile with a number displaying the number of files and folders within it. The file manager provides access to files present on both the phone memory and the memory card on the device.
This is similar to the functionality that is found on most non-rooted Android devices as well. Its strange how the existence of file manager now makes the Windows Phone OS seem more of a cross between the tightly knit iOS from Apple with the practicality of Android. Sounds like the right path to choose if you ask us!
