Miami-Based YEZZ Beats Micromax In Launching A WP Device

The YEZZ 'Billy 4.7' is affectionately named after Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Very few of you may have heard of Miami-based smartphone manufacturer Yezz, but their new device will surely get a few people standing up and taking notice. The 'Billy 4.7' is clad in aluminum, runs Windows Phone 8.1, is powered by a quad-core processor, has a 13MP snapper and costs $249 (Rs 15,000).

The Billy 4.7, affectionately named after Microsoft's founder Bill Gates, will go on sale in late May in the US, Europe and even in Latin America. The phone runs Microsoft's latest mobile OS, the second company after Nokia (now owned by Microsoft) to launch a Windows Phone 8.1 device.

At just 7.2mm thick, the Billy 4.7 features a 4.7-inch 720p screen and will support 4G HSPA+ but not 4G. The phone will be available on Amazon and on Yezz's own website in shades of white, red and blue.

Currently due to the lack of Windows Phone 8.1 devices in the market the only thing you can possibly compare the Billy 4.7 to is the Nokia Lumia 630, which would be rather stupid. Moreover the Billy 4.7 shows Microsoft's new strategy of getting its Windows Phone OS on devices from smaller manufacturers.

Our very own Indian brands Micromax and Karbonn have tied up with Microsoft in the hope to bring down the cost of owning a Windows powered device. Seems as though Yezz has beaten the Indian brands to it, and that too with a quite compelling mid-range spec-sheet.

For those with smaller pockets, Yezz will also launch a smaller 4-inch Billy 4.0, which will come with a quad-core processor and 8MP shooter for just $139 (Rs 8,400). Alas, the only news that we dread telling you is that there probably isn't even a sparse chance of the devices landing on Indian shores.
