Google's Bangalore Campus To Hold 'Code for India' Hackathon
The goal of the event is to inspire the tech community to create technology-based solutions for public service problems.

Internet search giant Google's campus in Bangalore will hold a first-of-its-kind hackathon in India, with the goal to inspire the tech community to create technology-based solutions for public service problems. The event which was announced by non-profit Code for India will be held simultaneously at the company's Bangalore and Mountain View campuses next month.
The key theme for the 'Code for India' event will be to make India more resilient to natural disasters like earthquakes, droughts and cyclones. The two day hackathon aims to gather engineers interested in creating technology-based applications that empower poor populations to address specific public service delivery problems.
"The transformative power of technology will aid India -- and other developing countries facing similar problems --fight the failing public service infrastructure," said Karl Mehta, founder of Code for India, in an ET report.
Infosys founder and Chairman N R Narayan Murthy and Google senior vice president Amit Singhal will provide keynote remarks at the 'Code for India' event. The World Bank Institute and the World Bank Group's Open Finances team will further provide participants with the required development and financial data, analysing which they will build their solutions.
The hackathon is a perfect way to bring together a community of techies to volunteer their time and knowledge to solve issues with the help of technology. India may be a powerhouse in the IT world, but its implementation for the betterment of governance and raising standards of living are few and far apart.
