Samsung Galaxy S5 Prices Slashed In India Ahead Of HTC One (M8) Launch
Discounts currently available only on Flipkart and Snapdeal for the 'Shimmery White' variant of the phone.
It's been little over week since Samsung launched its Galaxy S5 smartphone in India, and the flagship device has already been treated to a price cut on online retail sites Flipkart and Snapdeal. The news comes soon after rival HTC announced the launch of its One (M8) at a price of Rs 49,900, which will go on sale in the first week of May.
The 'Shimmery White' variant of the Galaxy S5 is now available at a price of Rs 46,450 on Flipkart, while Snapdeal sells the same variant of the phone for Rs 46,731. Neither of the companies has revealed the reason for the drop in price, and it is only extended towards the white variant of the phone.
Flipkart sells the 'Charcoal Black' Galaxy for Rs 50,499 while it is available on Snapdeal for Rs 50,999. Apart from the two basic colours, Snapdeal also sells the 'Electric Blue' variant of the phone at a premium price of Rs 51,099.
Samsung had initially launched the Galaxy S5 in India at a price of Rs 51,500 and the company website continues to list all three variants at the same cost. It is unclear whether the drop in price has been extended from the company or just online retailers Flipkart and Snapdeal in order to boost sales.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 retails for $599 (off contract) in the US market, while the phone was priced much higher at $850 (Rs 51,500) in India. The massive difference in price was despite the Indian version of the phone not using the more expensive Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but instead Samsung's own Exynos chip.
The drop in price of the S5 could soon be extended to the other two colour variants of the phone, especially to compete with the soon to be available HTC One (M8). The move could also be in line with the success of the S5 globally, which Samsung claims has already been better than that of its previous S4 flagship.
