Samsung's K Zoom Is Now Official; To Be Launched On April 29

The much-awaited successor to the GALAXY S4 Zoom now get a confirmed ‘K’ branding.

Samsung has finally sent out an invite that may make a number of GALAXY S5 buyers hold on to their purchase (at least the ones looking for good camera performance). The rumoured successor to the GALAXY S4 Zoom, the K Zoom has sort of been confirmed and will be launched on the 29th April.

The K Zoom has been in the rumour mill for a long time, with detailed hardware specifications being leaked by a Polish blogger who claims he had seen it at a private Samsung presentation. Post that we finally got a glimpse of the S5 Zoom which then got confirmed as the K Zoom with an image of the rear of the device to go with it. After that, SamMobile got their hands on the rumoured device’s benchmark results which allowed us to get confirmed details of the hardware specifications of the device.

The invite which was posted on Samsung’s Twitter account, simply read out “Kapture the moment…” This is enough to confirm the ‘K’ branding the device will carry and also clearly indicates Samsung's plan to launch their newest camera hybrid.

As earlier information revealed, the K Zoom does pack a 20.0MP image sensor on the back and 2.1MP camera unit on the front. The primary camera would also be supported by a Xenon Flash and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) system to reduce shake, which should be quite handy considering the camera's 10X zoom capabilities.

The K Zoom will sport a compact 4.8 inch SuperAMOLED HD (1280 x 720p) screen and a 6-core Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa (5260) SoC with ARM’s big.LITTLE HMP technology. Two of those would be 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores while the other four are 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores; along with some quad-core ARM Mali-T624 GPU graphics processing.

Coupled with all this fire power would be 2GB of RAM, and the phone will run Android KitKat out of the box. Internal memory will stand at 8GB, while storage will be expandable via a micro SD card for you to store those large 20MP photographs.

When it comes to the design, we have already had a glimpse and it seems that Samsung has finally gone slimmer, sober and chrome-free with the construction. So that’s about it; for now all we can do is wait to see the final product and ponder about whether it will beat the long standing ‘King of the Ring’ the Nokia Lumia 1020.
