Samsung Quietly Launches The GALAXY S3 Neo In India
The phone has a number of similarities with the GALAXY S3 but comes with some deductions.
Samsung has finally launched a variant of the original GALAXY S3 tagged as the GALAXY S3 Neo. The phone is strikingly similar to the original GALAXY S3 with the only change being, that it sports some rather mid-range specifications.
The body of the GALAXY S3 Neo has remained exactly the same as the original GALAXY S3; what has changed is mainly on the inside. The Samsung i9300I comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (of unknown make) which is just 0.2 GHz slower than the original S3. The RAM size has certainly increased to 1.5GB and the phone actually gets dual SIM slots. These could be the reasons why some will flock to buy this handset, over the older GALAXY S3.
The screen size still remains the same 1280 x 720 pixel, 4.8 inch, Super AMOLED display as found on the original GALAXY S3. Another hardware specification that has not changed is the 8MP primary camera unit and the front-facing 2MP camera unit which had served the original GALAXY pretty well.
Coming down to the price, the device has appeared online on Flipkart for a rather steep price tag of Rs 24,899. This comes as a shock as the GALAXY S3 sells on the same website for a price tag of Rs 21,999. Either Samsung will be stopping production of the original GALAXY S3, or it is indeed pretty stupid to price the S3 Neo the way it has.
The Samsung GALAXY S3 Neo is now available on sale online and comes in black, white, blue, brown, pink, grey, and red. As mentioned above there is clearly no indication on the Samsung India website about the make of the processor or the internal memory. Also there is no mention of which version of Android the device comes with. Our guess is that it may be upgraded to run KitKat in the future, thanks to the 1.5GB of RAM, something that the original S3 may miss out on.
