Microsoft To Push Out At Least Two GDR Updates For Windows Phone 8.1 In 2014
Updates to bring additional features to the already long list of add-ons of Windows Phone 8.1.
Windows Phone is hot news these days, thanks to the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update that Microsoft demoed at the BUILD 2014 conference. The company added a long list of additions and improvements to existing apps which will obviously be perfected as the software nears its release date. What’s more, is that sources tell us that there will be two smaller GDR updates reaching Windows Phone devices, later this year.
WPCentral reports that the new GDR updates or ‘general distribution releases’ are already on Microsoft’s software release roadmap for this year. There is also a rumour that talks about a third OS update in 2015, codenamed ‘Threshold’.
What comes in the above mentioned GDR updates is not clear. But there have been murmurs floating in and around the rumour mill for quite some time now. One of them is a weird ‘Samsung’ like 3D gesture control, which will make you look silly every time you use it. Let’s hope Microsoft holds back on that one. Gestures are simply a failed attempt and it makes you look like a fool. Apple so far, has been the only company who has been successful in applying them to their software.
Next up is the Lytro like camera feature which is supposed to deliver a multi-focus effect. But Nokia’s Refocus does a better job without the dual-lens setup which is on the HTC One (M8). The HTC One (M8), after having the dual-lens setup still failed to provide realistic and natural-looking results which Refocus does with aplomb.
Some may point out to upcoming devices that will sport hardware similar to the dual camera setup of the HTC One (M8). Hardware support is a must when it comes to the rumoured features mentioned in such updates. This is why we think that these features will continue to remain rumours.
