Google Introduces In-App Content Search Globally

You can now search through content and open links directly through your installed apps.

 

Sounds a bit complicated doesn’t it? Well, Google has left that part to the developers who build all of those awesome apps, which you use on a day to day basis. Basically, Google Search will now allow you to open your search results via an app, provided it is installed on your device.

We search for content on a daily basis using the browsers or the Google Search app on our phones or tablets. The sole purpose of this is to get the information we need wherever and whenever we need it. The problem is that all those beautifully designed app just sit mum in your phone while all the searching happens in your browser.

To solve this problem, Google has now introduced in-app search. What in-app content search does, is that it prompts you to open a search result via an app installed on your device instead of continuing with the same in your browser.

Say for example, you were searching for movie tickets via the Google Search app. Thanks to in-app content search, you will now have the option to have a richer experience and be able to book those movie tickets via your app; instead of zooming in and browsing through a ticketing website.

The broader issue here is that every app now needs Google’s ‘App Indexing’ code to enable deep links or those ‘Open in App’ buttons. So far a few apps have participated in the app indexing:
500px, AOL, BigOven, Bleacher Report, Booking.com, Eventbrite, Glassdoor, Goodreads, Huffington Post, Merriam-Webster, Pinterest, Realtor.com, Seeking Alpha, TalkAndroid, TheFreeDictionary, The Journal, TripAdvisor, Tumblr, Urbanspoon, Wattpad, YP, Zagat, Zappos and Zillow.

In-app content search was announced by Google sometime back, but was only limited to certain geographic regions. Now Google plans to global with the same.

It sounds like a great feature, and apps definitely provide a better way to browse through content especially on mobile devices with smaller screens. Let’s just hope all the developers end up participating for now.
