Samsung's KitKat Powered Galaxy Ace Style Showcased In Germany
It isn't official yet but the entry level phone will be available in both single and dual SIM variants
Samsung has quitely unveiled its new budget device, dubbed the Galaxy Ace Style, at a road show in Hamburg, Germany. The phone which was supposedly available for demo among a host of other Samsung devices was none other than the G310 - a device we caught wind of earlier in March.
While the Galaxy Ace Style follows in the footsteps of its predecessors when it comes to design, there is a singular but major change - it runs on Android Kitkat. The news isn't earth shattering especially since a budget Samsung device running Google's latest phone OS showed up in an inventory listing a couple of weeks ago.
According to netzwelt.de this is the same device and it sports a 4 inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) display, a Broadcom chipset powered by two Cortex A9 cores clocked @1.2 GHz and 4GB of internal memory. A 5MP primary camera will be supported by VGA front-facing camera module, with the phone being capable of capturing videos in HD. The Galaxy Ace Style will be available in single SIM and dual SIM variants, just like the older model it will replace.
An update from Samsung in the budget phone segment has been expected for some time now, but the device running on Andorid KitKat could signify Google's new policies for manufacturers creeping in. The allegedly leaked documents said that for any new device (including budget ones) to receive Google's support they would have to run on the latest iteration of Android.
Google coming down hard on manufacturers to begin using KitKat may be it's way to boost adoption of its latest software, but it also comes as good news to buyers of budget devices who've always been stuck with outdated operating systems.
