Samsung's 'Windows-Powered' Ativ SE Details Emerge
Sporting similar specs to the Nokia Lumia Icon, does it stand a chance to compete?
Yes, we are just a day away from getting the hot details on Nokia’s next-gen Lumia devices (one of which should be a flagship device), which is why we are worried about Samsung’s rumoured Huron.
@EvLeaks has recently revealed details of the upcoming Ativ SE from Samsung, who seem to be opting for a 'Galaxy' mantra for their latest Windows powered handset. Earlier, rumours pointed out that the device could be one of the first phones to run Windows 8.1, But that has been proven untrue thanks to the latest news.
We now have the hardware specs of Samsung’s latest (and probably the only) Windows Phone handset for this year. They include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, which will be expandable via a micro SD card slot. Up front will be a 1080p display, while the back will house a 13 MP camera unit with an LED flash. As one would notice, the only difference so far between the Nokia Lumia Icon and Samsung Ativ is the addition of a micro SD card slot and difference in camera resolutions.
More importantly, Samsung's Ative SE will lack Windows Phone 8.1 right from the word go — lost is a big reason Windows Phone fans to flock to Samsung stores. The update may come a bit later, but there's no hard proof pointing at the development. Additionally, one can expect Samsung's camera unit to be a bit lacking, especially when considering Nokia’s expertise in the mobile camera game.
With Nokia literally dominating the Windows Phone space, it comes as no surprise that their handsets will be the first to feature Windows Phone 8.1. As for Samsung's upcoming Windows handset, it will be exclusive to Verizon so we have no hopes of the device reaching Indian shores anytime soon. For now though our eyes are glued to the Build 2014 stage.
