Sony Not Keen On Embracing Android Wear… For Now
Google’s Android Wear announcement surely got a lot manufacturers thinking ‘why now?’.
Google recently announced Android Wear and LG and Motorola were the first manufacturers to jump right in. LG was first in line, and Google announced that LG will be the first one to release a smartwatch running Google’s new wearables OS.
Just a few hours later Motorola announced the Moto 360, with LG announcing the LG G Watch a few days later via Twitter. This got all of us thinking, whatever happens to the wearables that Sony and Samsung had showcased at the MWC? Will they head back to the drawing board? Well, all those questions are gradually being answered.
Sony finally gave in to the whole smartwatch fracas and took to twitter stating that they will not be embracing the Android Wear OS just yet. Makes sense if you ask us. Sony was the first manufacturer to introduce the smartwatch to the masses. One that communicated with Sony’s (back then Sony Ericsson) smartphones to make processing notifications and tasks such as changing music tracks a lot easier.
A lot of research had gone into redesigning and building the recently announced SmartWatch 2 and SmartBand as well. This is why Sony says that they will continue to stick to their customised OS for now. But that does not mean that they will not consider Google’s option ever.
It remains to be seen how established smart watch manufacturers like, Sony, Pebble and now Samsung deal with the situation. Especially because they have built complete ecosystems along with a large number of apps available for the same.
