Windows Phone Store To Get A New Look With Windows Phone 8.1
Adds a number of sections including my apps, app updates and a personalized section as well.
Microsoft’s BUILD 2014 conference is now just a week away and we simply cannot wait to learn about the new features of the Windows Phone 8.1. Now that the Windows Phone 8.1 core is ready, the guys at WpCentral have reported some much awaited changes happening in the Windows Phone Store.
The Windows Phone Store has seen very minor changes since launch. This time around, reports point to some major changes that had been requested by Windows Phone fans for a very long time.
The minor changes include:
- The ‘Featured’ section now showing up as the first pane when you launch the app
- There are now ‘Quick Links’ available with featured apps, games and much more
- There is now a ‘Personalized’ section for app recommendations. These will be similar to the Play Store’s ‘Recommended for you’ section which will display apps depending upon on your search history and interests. Obviously there will an option to opt out of these if you are not interested in those recommendations.
The new features list include new sections within the app that were much needed, but were not available before.
- My apps – Checks for updates
- Downloads – See active downloads
- App Updates – Option for automatic updates; only over Wi-Fi
- Use my location – For better app suggestions
Additionally, there will be a new layout, similar to the leaked Xbox Live app and expect some new transitions as well. The reviews section gets a graph and users can now select how they want to view the reviews thanks to an app review sorting option.
With so many features that have leaked out so far, and many more to go (Cortana), Windows Phone 8.1 seems to be a major upgrade for the platform. We hope to at least see a majority of the Windows Phone handsets getting the update; even though there seems to be a very thin chance of that happening.
