Dual-Lens Smartphone Camera: Killer Feature Or Just A Gimick?
We now have a clue about what HTC is up to with its twin-lens camera.

The first leaked images of the HTC M8 surprised us with its two lens camera setup. Since the handset hasn't been announced yet, there's still confusion over what exactly this new age camera brings to the table. To find out what HTC is up to, Engadget.com got hold of a company called Corephotonics, which is working on a striking similar camera unit.
They say that the technology as still in its nascent stage, but there's a working prototype to show off their expertise. The twin-lens setup built by Corephotonics, basically uses two different lenses with different focal lengths. One lens sits at a comfortable wide-angle while the other is zoomed in by default at 3X. This simply provides the convenience for the user to have a zoom and a wide optical lens setup, which one can switch on the fly.
But wait, there are other advantages according to Corephotonics as well. The second one having to do with using two different lenses at different focal lengths to feed the data to the sensor, resulting in better low light performance. The last use according to the company is to deliver superior depth of field thanks to the data pouring in from the multiple lens setup.
We hope HTC has something similar up its sleeves and it actually performs unlike the Ultra-pixel technology that it debuted last year.
