International GALAXY S III Update Hits A Roadblock
Seems like Samsung is unable to stick to its promises.
Samsung has recently published a list of devices that would receive the Android KitKat update in the US. It included the US version of the GALAXY S III, which came with 2 GB of RAM and a different chipset altogether. From what we hear, blogger
Robert Nawrowski from Poland got in touch with a Samsung representative who claimed that the international version of the S III (GT-i9300) will miss out on the Kitkat update, RAM being the major concern.
The list of official devices that will support KitKat goes as follows:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
- Samsung Galaxy Note II
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3
- Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8
- Samsung Galaxy Grand
- Samsung Galaxy Express 2
The Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 just recently received the Android Jelly Bean 4.3 update in India and worldwide after being delayed over and over again, thanks to buggy software that was not tested. Users experienced a number of problems rendering some phones completely useless depending on region.
It was just today that the international Galaxy S4 has been seeing a rollout for Android KitKat V 4.4 in Russia. The update is for the 3G Exynos variant thought there is no sign of the LTE variant just yet.
We wouldn’t conclude that Samsung would simply let of its best-selling flagship in years without a fight. It’s just that with their recent stroke of bad luck with updates for the GALAXY S3, that owners may actually see rather trimmed down version of KitKat; albeit a little too late.
