Samsung GALAXY S5 To Feature An iPhone-Esque Fingerprint Scanner

Can the Korean-giant implement this techonology in the right way?

Reports and rumours are pouring in stating that Samsung has done away with the screen-based fingerprint scanning technology. The Korean company didn’t seem to have time to make the technology usable. So they simply went ahead and did what they are very good at: copy the iPhone. The reports point out that Samsung's next flagship will pack in the fingerprint scanning tech in the Home button, just like the iPhone 5s. The only difference here is that one will have to swipe their finger over the home button unlike Apple’s implementation that only requires you to place your finger over the home button.

Fingerprint recognition brought a lot of changes on the table for iPhone 5s users and actually made a lot of sense when it came to using the phone on a day-to-day basis. The Apple Touch ID allows you to use your fingerprint to approve app store purchases.

In Samsung’s case the rumours say, that the fingerprint scanning tech will only be implemented to unlock the phone and (just like iOS) be used for verifying ID’s in the Samsung App Store. Don't expect this feature to work with Google’s Play Store and other 3rd party apps yet. Moreover, Google seems to be working on Voice activated passwords, which means fingerprint scanning will probably be limited to a few apps and devices.
