Nokia Sells Over A Million Lumias
Turns out to be a game changer for the company.
The folks at Nokia finally have something to rejoice over. It was reported that the Lumia phones have sold around 1.3 million units globally in 2011 alone, since their launch in November last year. The average estimate of 22 analysts compiled by Bloomberg is based on projections and not official sales reports. The smartphones powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system have certainly been receiving positive reviews. This could possibly turn around the fortunes of the Finnish company that has been facing some tough times.
Judging by these estimates, it seems that Nokia has made a wise decision by letting go of the aging Symbian and homegrown Meego mobile operating systems. Bringing in cheaper models running WP7 will certainly help achieve better sales. The company's alliance with Microsoft has already been projected to propel WP to second position by 2015, overtaking iOS in the process. This will not be too hard to achieve, if Nokia doesn't lose its current momentum.
