Huawei To Dip Toes In The Smartwatch Market
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer will introduced its first wearable at MWC 2014.
Asian competitors are already trying to secure positions in the fledging smartwatch category. The latest to jump on this bandwagon is China’s Huawei Technologies, which plans to unveil one at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Huawei also plans to show a new smartphone and two new tablets at the telecommunication industry’s biggest annual trade show, set for Feb. 24-27. According to Huawei, the new smartphone it will show in Barcelona isn’t the successor to its flagship Ascend P6.
The Shenzhen-based company is a major smartphone vendor in China and other emerging markets. It has started making its presence felt in India recently. Pricing will be a crucial factor in Huawei's success. If they don't sell it at the affordable price, the company will have hard time competition with the established smartwatch players such as Samsung and Sony.
