India-Born Satya Nadella Tipped To Be The Next Microsoft CEO
Bloomberg claims to have received the information from sources familiar with the matter.

Microsoft has been searching for its next CEO since Steve Ballmer announced his retirement last year. The initial list of cadidates included big names such as Stephen Elop (former CEO of Nokia), Ford's Alan Mulally, Tony Bates (ex Skype CEO), Satya Nadella (executive VP of Cloud and Enterprise group at MS), Steve Mollenkopf (Qualcomm), Hans Vestberg (Ericsson), Kevin Turner (Microsoft's COO), and Terry Myerson (executive VP of operating systems at MS). Later Mulally, Mollenkopf, and Vestberg were out of the race due to their obligations with the current employers. The focus then shifted on internal candidates. Till now the candidates to fill Ballmer's shoes were Elop, Kevin Turner, and Terry Myerson. However, now a Bloomberg report states that Microsoft is preparing to make Satya Nadella CEO. As always though, the source of this information are some people who requested Bloomberg not to publish their names because the process is private. I'd be surprised to see Satya as Microsoft's CEO, as Ballmer has been consistently talking about how important it is for Microsoft to focus more on consumer hardware. Speaking of which, no one at Microsoft understands devices business better than Stephen Elop. The Canadian is an internal candidate after returning to Microsoft as an executive vice-president of the devices and services division. For those not in the know, he was head of the business division that was responsible for Microsoft Office (Microsoft's most profitable product). Under Satya, Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise group has seen excellent growth. However, I doubt if 'cloud' expertise is the need of the hour for the Software giant.
There are also talks of investors demanding Bill Gates to step down as Chairman. Two anonymous sources told Bloomberg that even if he steps down, he will be involved in the company and probably oversea product development.
Indian American Satya Nadella is originally from Hyderabad. After moving to the US, he worked at Sun Microsystems (now owned by Oracle Corporation). His appointment as CEO would put him in the league of Indra Nooyi who leads multi-billion dollar Pepsico Inc. This will surely make us Indians proud. And hopefully, his tenure will never remind us of Citi group's CEO Vikram Pandit.
