Apple Pulled Up In Taiwan For Interefering In Pricing

Fined around Tw$20 million over pricing of the iPhone in the country.

 

Apple has been pulled up by Fair Trade Commission in Taiwan over its interference in the pricing of its iPhone in the county. A report in the Dawn suggests that despite giving distribution rights for the handsets, the US giant hasn't let three local telecom service providers have the final say for the setting the sales price. Investigations reveal that the three telecos had submitted their pricing plans for confirmation with Apple but the handset maker had asked for changes in the pricing strategy.

The report further adds that the commission, along with slapping fine worth Tw$20 million (around Rs 41,346,300), says, "Apple deprived the telecom operators of liberty to decide on the prices based on their own cost structures and competitive market situation, to restrict competition ... and violate the fair trade law".

Apple, on its part, can appeal against the ruling, but if it fails the fine can swell up to Tw$ 50 million, as per the commission. Let's see how Apple manages to swing this one in its favour.
