Twitter Will Show Promoted Accounts On App Timelines

Will sprinkle paid account suggestions all over your "Home Timeline" in native Twitter apps.

 

Facebook has been doing this for a while with its apps, and now it's time for Twitter to join the bandwagon. After launching its Promoted Accounts feature way back in 2010, the microblogging website has decided to test the service on its iOS and Android apps. An official blog entry suggests that users will now see "paid accounts" on their "home timeline", when using the native Twitter app on the two popular smartphone platforms. The changes are said to be rolled out globally now, and these accounts will also be listed in the Who to Follow section, where the existing Promoted Accounts are being listed.

As more advertisers seep into closed groups of social networks, let's just hope all the money doesn't dilute the true essence of social networking in the long run.
