Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses Up For Pre-Order In The US
The $1000 Google Glass alternative is expected to ship in the next couple of weeks.
Google Glass is undoubtedly the most talked about augmented reality gadget of this year. However, the search-giant's wearable is yet to hit the market. So if you want a readily available smart eyewear Vuzix's M100 is your best bet.
The gadget features a 16:9, WQVGA 24-bit colour display that floats in or near your line of sight, providing an image visually equivalent to a 4" screen held at a typical 14-inch distance. Vuzix claims that the display is 2000 nits bright, so there's nothing to worry about its visibility in bright outdoor sunlight. In comparison, the smartphone screens generally offer luminance of 400-600 nits.
The Vuzix M100 runs a highly modified version Android 4.0 (ICS) platform. The manufacturer claims that the device is compatible with thousands of Android apps. It is powered by 1 GHz OMAP4430 chip. Other features include 1 GB RAM, 4 GB of flash memory, microSD card slot, ambient light sensor, 600 mAh battery, and 3800 mAh external battery pack. Using its 5 megapixel camera, you can snap stills and record full-HD videos. The smart glasses can be connected to Android devices via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It doesn't have cellular support, but it can work as a hands-free device.
The Vuzix M100 has been priced at $1000 (approx Rs 63,000). If you think you haven't got enough distractions in your life, you can order one by heading to the company's official store. The orders are expected to ship in the next couple of weeks.
