XOLO Launches Its First Snapdragon Powered Q500 Smartphone

The entry-level smartphone comes with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

XOLO rose to fame by partnering with Intel. However, the Indian manufacturer mostly built MediaTek-based phones post that. XOLO also added a few devices powered by NVIDIA Tegra chips. Now for the fist time, it has released a Qualcomm Snapdragon based smartphone the Q500. The new entrant is an affordable device that's powered by a low-end 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor. The XOLO Q500 comes with a 4-inch WVGA display with OGS (One Glass Solution) technology and pixel density of 233 ppi. The smartphone also features a 5 megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and VGA front-facing camera. Other features include 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage, microSD slot, and 1450 mAh battery.

The Q500 ships with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out-of-the-box. XOLO has also thrown in the X-TransPic app that can translate text and signs in real time. That's quite similar to Bing Vision found on the Windows Phone platform. However, unlike Microsoft's offering, X-TransPic can work even in offline mode. The XOLO Q500 smartphone is available for Rs 8000. In this price-range, it faces competition from the likes of Micromax Canvas Juice A77, Lava Iris 456, and Nokia Lumia 520.

If you closely observe the Q500's specifications, other than the screen size, they are very similar to that of the Samsung GALAXY Quattro that sells for almost twice its price. Finally the Snapdragon 200 chipset has reached phones in the right price bracket - under Rs 10,000.
