LG Dilutes Their 'G Pro' Brand With The Launch Of G Pro Lite Dual In India
The watered-down G Pro with a lower res 5.5" screen and dual-core CPU is over-priced at Rs 23,000.
Considering the popularity of oversized phones in India, LG has rolled out yet another 5.5-incher. Called the G Pro Lite Dual, it's a watered-down and relatively cheaper alternative to the original G Pro. The latest phone comes a 5.5" IPS screen with pixel dimensions of 540x960 as opposed to 1080x1920 in the original G Pro. Other features include an 8 megapixel camera with BSI (BackSide Iluminated) sensor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, and microSD card slot. This dual-SIM handset sports a dedicated key to switch between these cards. On the software front, the phone offers Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), which is quite dated. The G Pro Lite also comes with a stylus support with handwriting recognition. It also packs in a few LG UX features found on the company's latest flagship G2. Other features include KnockON that wakes up the display in two taps, Pause and Resume Recording for recording of short snippets of video, QSlide, QuickMemo to jot memos or notes, and Q Translator.
The biggest downer here is the age-old 1.0 GHz dual-core MT6577 SoC. Now, dual-core MediaTek chipsets are fine for inexpensive smartphones, but for Rs 23,000, it's a joke! For this price, you can get the LG Nexus 4 and Nokia Lumia 920 which are significantly better phones. If it's the stylus that drives you, or the dual-SIM support, then you can get the Panasonic P51 with a quad-core processor and a 5" HD screen (720x1280) for a good 5k less. And if you're hell-bent on buying an oversized phone, it makes sense to spend 4k more and go for the Samsung GALAXY Note II instead, which is way more powerful.
