LG Announces G Pro Lite Powered By MediaTek Chipset

The 5.5" dual-SIM handset is expected to launch by the end of this month.

In order to compete with the low-cost Chinese rebadged phones, International brands are finding ways to cut corners. First it was Sony that came up with a low-cost MediaTek MT6589 (quad-core) based Xperia C. Now LG has gone a step down further by throwing an age-old 1.0 GHz dual-core MT6577 SoC in its latest phone - the G Pro Lite.

The G pro Lite sports a 5.5" IPS screen. However, as opposed to the Full-HD screen found on the original G Pro, the Lite version settles for 960x540 pixels. Other features include an 8 megapixel camera with BSI (BackSide Iluminated) sensor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, and microSD card slot. This dual-SIM handset sports a dedicated key to switch between these cards. On the software front, the phone offers Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), which has been around almost a year back. The G Pro Lite also comes with a stylus support with handwriting recognition. It also packs in a few LG UX features found on the company's latest flagship G2.

The G Pro Lite will be released this month starting from Latin America followed by other markets including Russia, China, and India. Currently, there's no word on its pricing, but we expect it to be around Rs 20,000.
