Indians Love Their Free Mobile Apps And Games
Avendus Capital's report confirms this and predicts stupendous growth by 2016.
Well this comes as no surprise: Mobile apps and games are very popular among Indians. In fact so much so, that the market is expected to grow to Rs 2700 crores by 2016, as a reported by Avendus Capital.
PTI report states that large scale piracy has been hindering sales, due to which the digital content market place hasn't taken off as expected. Interestingly, Caller ringback tones are the only things that people pay for. This is not only because of the love for ringback tones, but because there is no easy way to pirate/evade ringback tones, considering these handled by the telecom provider.
Indian consumers being very price sensitive (or just in love with freebies) focus more on free and advertisement-supported applications and games, which counts for as much as 40 percent for free games and 10 percent for mobile web. The Avendus report predicts ad-supported content will reduce to about 25 to 30 percent in the year 2016 thereby accruing Rs 2700 crores by paid apps, and advertisements alone.
Reports aside, what do you spend your time most on your mobile or tablet?
