Microsoft Bans Users Running Leaked X360 Copies of GTA V

Pirates being issued with life ban from Xbox Live; will have to buy a new console to resume service.

This is the story of every hotly anticipated AAA game sequel. Like Halo 4 before it, enterprising pirates have leaked Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360. Not surprisingly, Microsoft has come down like an anvil on users who have posted images and video clips. With the game releasing at midnight tonight, Rockstar is keen on keeping the spoilers at bay. However, that hasn't stopped gamers from flooding Instagram and Vine with game content. Meanwhile the GTA V creator has been busy issuing takedown requests for pirates posting pre-release spoilers for the game.

Rockstar is quite strict about content posted to its forums, and has issued the following decree to that effect: "No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes 'early unboxing' videos."

Meanwhile, Microsoft is doing its part to ensure legitimate buyers won't have to deal with crippling spoilers being posted across its network. As of this writing, it has obtained the Gamer Tag of at least one Xbox Live user and banned the perpetrator permanently for posting screenshots from the leaked game. The ban is permanent and the pirate will have to buy a new console to use the Xbox Live service again. More such bans are likely to follow.

The game is set to get a midnight release in a few hours across seven locations spread across Bombay, Pune, and Thane. Click here for more details.
