BlackBerry Launches 9720 With QWERTY Keypad For Rs 16,000

The budget handset comes with BB OS 7.1 and a 2.8-inch touchscreen.

After launching the ridiculously-expensive Z10 and Q10, BlackBerry has unveiled the budget-friendly 9720. Priced at Rs 16,000, this new handset is the successor of the popular Curve 9320. With this phone, BlackBerry has gone back to its roots, with the iconic full-QWERTY keypad. Another thing worth mentioning here is that the 9720 will be available in Black, White, Purple, Blue, and Pink.

It offers a touch-and-type UI, and also sports the good-old track pad. Those hoping for BB OS 10 will be disappointed, as the phone ships with the old OS 7.1. That’s because the 9720 is powered by a measly 806 MHz processor. One of the selling points for the phone, is obviously going to be the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). For photography, the phone comes with a 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera with a single LED flash. Other hardware features include 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot, and a 1450 mAh battery.

The BlackBerry 9720 is expected to hit stores by the end of this week. For Rs 16,000, the phone isn't a major update over the relatively-cheaper 9320, save for the touchscreen. So unless you're too fond of touch interface, the 9320 offers a better deal.
