Google Pulls The Plug On Microsoft's YouTube Windows Phone App, Again

Microsoft proposes, Google disposes; cites HTML5 non-compliance of mobile Internet Explorer.

Google has done it again. The search giant has resorted to playing spoil-sport one more time, by forcing Microsoft to pull the just-released revamped YouTube app for Windows Phone. The official reason: Violation of terms by incomplete HTML5 implementation in the mobile Internet Explorer. Google has claimed that it has "disabled" the app, and those who have already installed the app, it returns a message, "Something happened, we're not sure what". While the app is broken, certain sections such as the newly-introduced Live streams still work as before. Of course, the app is no longer listed on the Windows Phone Store.

A few days before the app was put up, Microsoft had mentioned that it had worked closely with Google to make sure that all issues were resolved. This leads us to believe that Google is deliberately playing hardball with the software giant, by forcing it to delist the app and not informing about the issue beforehand. Microsoft Corporate VP and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation & Antitrust, David Howard, has blogged lengthy post on TechNet, slamming Google's openness claims, while reiterating that it will continue to work yet again to bring out the ill-fated app that promises native YouTube experience to Windows Phone users. This is not the first time that Google has forced Microsoft to remove the app, the YouTube app for WP devices was pulled last year and replaced by a lite front-end for the mobile version of the video streaming service. What do you think about Google's tactics in delaying the YouTube app for Windows Phone? Do let us know in the comments below.
