Microsoft's YouTube App Returns To Windows Phone Store
Now features ads and uploading, but download option has been removed.
The YouTube app by Microsoft is back on the Windows Phone Store. Google, which owns YouTube, had forced Microsoft to pull the app off its app store in May, stating that it violated the terms of use. The app didn't display ads (a major revenue source for the company), and it allowed users to download videos. Microsoft complied at the time and pledged to work together with Google to find middle ground. In the meantime, the company put up a YouTube app that was basically a front-end for the YouTube mobile site. The new app though is a more full-fledged version like the original, which displays ads and has removed the download option.
The app also has a few new features such as the ability to upload videos stored on your device. Also, users can now view live event video streams. Keyword suggestion for search, voice search, and additional languages are now supported as well. You can also pin videos, playlist, channels, and search queries as Live Tile on the Start screen. Other features such as managing your profile, playlists, uploads, and video lists as well as sharing videos to social networks, emails, and text messages have been retained. The 4 MB free app is available for Windows Phone 7.8 and 8 handsets.
