Amazon Appstore Now Supports Web Apps

Starts accepting HTML5-based apps in addition to Android apps.

 

Amazon Appstore has now started accepting apps made using HTML5, the store had so far only been hosting Android apps. The advantage of this move is that developers do not have to worry about porting their web-based apps to Android, in order to publish them on the Appstore. The service will take care of packaging the submitted apps in a format compatible with the various Amazon devices, including the Kindle Fire and other compatible Android devices. The company has assured that the said apps will still run with native-like performance on Kindle Fire that comes with a fast web runtime, based on the Chrome engine.

Developers will get access to the free Web App Tester tool, in order to test the apps they create to make sure they run well on the intended devices, before submitting them to the Appstore. HTML5 and mobile-optimised app developers can log into the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal's My Apps section to add their new web apps.
