Microsoft Brings Bing App Suite To Windows Phone 8
The collection of four apps includes Sports, News, Weather and Finance.
In tune with its policy of bringing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 closer, Microsoft has announced Bing Apps for its mobile platform. These include Sports, News, Weather, and Finance. The apps, which were already present in Windows 8, feel more like ports of their desktop versions. The advantage of this is that those already accustomed to Windows 8 will feel right at home. The easy interface should not be a problem for new users either.
The Bing News app is the same as the desktop client, but is optimised for smaller screens with adjustable font sizes and live tiles feature. The wide tile features high resolution image for the Start Screen and additional customisation options have been added.
Bing Sports brings in headlines, photos, videos, schedules, standings, scores, and more form major sports such as cricket, hockey, basketball, racing, tennis, and soccer. The My Teams option lets you add your favourite teams on one page, making it easier to follow the recent happenings of the teams of your interest.
The Bing Finance app delivers the latest from the financial markets with various comparison and customisation options. The live tile displays a watch list for individual stocks and tapping it opens detailed statistics of the company. Top financial news is also just a swipe away.
Weather apps are always beautiful on any platform and so is the new Bing Weather. Its live tile provides the latest update on temperature and weather conditions. The app fetches information from Accuweather and is designed well enough to compete against any paid app in the category. That said, we do miss the lockscreen support for all these apps which we expect in the next update.
These Bing apps suite is available only for Windows Phone 8, so those of you older WP version handset need not apply. Hit the embedded hyperlinks above to download the apps to your mobile phone.
