LG Introduces Flagship Handset G2 With Unique Button Placement

The 5.2-incher flaunts a Snapdragon 800 chipset and 13 megapixel camera.

 

Korean electronics giant LG has unveiled its latest flagship called the G2. It's the company's first smartphone in recent years that doesn’t belong to the Optimus series. The G2 brings an interesting rear button that doubles up as power key, volume rocker, QuickMemo, and camera key. According to LG, the change is a result of an extensive research in which the company found out that the rear buttons are easier to access compared to those placed on the sides.

 

As speculated earlier, the LG G2 sports a 5.2” full-HD IPS screen.  At 450 nits, it’s 50 nits brighter than the recently reviewed Optimus G Pro. The phone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.2 GHz. Like most top-end Android handsets, the G2 features a 13 megapixel autofocus camera. LG claims that the smartphone offers superior low-light imaging with the help of OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). To make sure this beast lasts from dawn to dusk on a single change, LG has fit in a 3000 mAh battery. The G2 offers Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. The manufacturer has heavily customized the software with the so called UX features that improve the usability of the device. Some of the interesting features include:

Automatically answers the call after lowering the ringtone when the phone is raised to one’s ear.

QuickRemote
Not only can LG G2 be used to remotely control popular home entertainment devices, it can also learn from conventional remotes and be customized to operate multiple devices with flexible layouts and keys.

Slide Aside
Enables easier multitasking by simply “sliding” open apps off to the side using a three-finger swipe.

Guest Mode
Protects owner’s privacy by displaying only pre-selected apps when guests access the phone with a secondary unlock pattern.

The LG G2 will be rolled out in the next couple of months starting from South Korea followed by North America, Europe and other key markets. As of this writing, we don’t have specific information about its India launch or price.
