Coming Soon: A Low-Cost Octa-Core Mobile Processor From MediaTek
Will challenge Samsung's Exynos 5 with "true" octa-core processor.

Currently, Samsung's Exynos 5 (5410) is the only chipset in market to feature an octa-core processor (found in the GALAXY S4). However, MediaTek may soon end the Korean giant's monopoly by introducing a True Octa-Core processor called the MT6592. What's interesting here is that unlike the Exynos 5 chipset, MediaTek's offering will actually utilise all eight cores simultaneously. So at least on paper, this translates into better performance. Thanks to ARM's big.Little optimised architecture, it will also be more power efficient than the existing chipsets.
According to MediaTek, the upcoming SoC will offer unmatched web-browsing experience by allocating browser tabs to individual CPU cores. It's also said to deliver 20-percent more frames during high-quality video play back. As of this writing, there's no word as to when this chipset will be made available to the OEMs.
