Aircel Offers Free Wikipedia Access To Subscribers
Service will be available in 20 Indian languages.
As telecos chase the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Google to swell its customer base, Aircel has turned to offer free access to Wikipedia to its subscriber base. The telco has tied up with Wikimedia Foundation to launch the Wikipedia Zero program that claims to offer free access to the user-created encyclopaedia to their claimed 60 million users in the country.
The service will give users access to Wikipedia in 20 Indian languages, including English, Hindi, and Tamil. Aircel users can use m.wikipedia.org, or the text-only zero.wikipedia.org which will work on smartphones and feature phones alike.
