Samsung Introduces 3 GB RAM For Mobile Devices, Note 3 May See It First

These RAM units are relatively thin, and should provide for high-end video playback and better multi-tasking on smartphones.

 

Samsung has officially announced a new 3 GB RAM for smartphones that claims to offer a high-quality Full HD video playback and better multi-tasking. Samsung says the mass production of these new LPDDR3 RAMs, boasting of transfer speed of data up to 2133 Mbps, have begun. These memory chips will make it to devices by the end of the year.

The 3 GB RAM is contained inside 20 nanometer class 4 GB LPDDR3 chips. The entire set up is just 0.8 mm in height and the 20 nm thickness, making it really compact. With this increase in internal space, a handset makers can added bigger battery within any phone.

Samsung's new RAM is also said to support advanced LTE, but its usefulness will need a real-world test. This high-end 3 GB RAM from Samsung could soon have competitors, as there are reports of the Ubuntu Edge multi-boot smartphone with at least 4 GB of RAM. However, we expect Samsung to release devices with 3 GB RAM soon, possibly starting with the GALAXY Note 3, before Ubuntu Edge goes official.
