Josh Fortune HD Smartphone Tries Making 5.3" Screens Cool Again

Yet another "Phablet" enters the market, packs in a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM.

Josh Mobiles, an Indian brand has released the Fortune HD smartphone with a 5.3" qHD display, which runs the now-outdated Android 4.0.4 (Ice-Cream Sandwich) operating system. They may well have a point when they talk of "breaking boundaries", as their Fortune HD is competing with major smartphone manufacturers to make smartphones with display sizes that are 5 inches and above.

People currently thinking from a "bigger is better" viewpoint may well have a new option to consider now. Though the phone has qHD display (960x540 pixels), and not HD (1280x720 pixels) as the name would suggest, the pixel density is not as impressive given it's screen size. Tech specs of the Josh Fortune HD are as follows:

  • 5.3" display, 960x540 pixels
  • Dual-SIM support
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice-Cream Sandwich operating system
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM, 2 GB internal storage
  • MicroSD card slot for expansion up to 32 GB
  • 8 MP primary camera, and a 3 MP front camera
  • 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and A-GPS connectivity
  • 2400 mAh battery

The Josh Fortune HD is priced a tad higher at Rs 12,000, and is available in retail stores. Phones with screen sizes of 3.2 inches or larger were frequently bracketed into the "large phone" category even in the full-touch smartphone era. That of course, was until Samsung's Galaxy series pushed the envelope to make 4-inches the norm and then went ever-larger, spawning "competition" that went berserk with screen sizes. If you want something a  bit more "handy", smaller screen sizes are nowadays seen mostly on sub-5k budget phones, and this phone's hardware specs are closer to that seen in our compilation of smartphones in the Rs 10k price-range.
