Intel Launches Drive To Enlighten Housewives
Will train over 2000 homemakers in 100 housing societies.
Intel seems to be doing a lot more than just manufacturing processors and chipsets. The computing giant has taken up a new computer-literacy initiative with the aim of training over 2000 housewives in over 100 housing societies in Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad. The program has been launched together with Lenovo and JustMyNeighbour, which is a society web portal of Resident Welfare Association of India (RWAs), connecting residents through a unified online platform. The drive was launched in Mumbai earlier this month and will continue till January 2012.
As per the program, the training takes place over weekends in 50 selected housing societies (25 societies per day). A hands-on training will be provided for batches of 20 to 25 housewives at a time with Lenovo arranging for the computer hardware. It will cover a variety of topics including introduction to PC components, internet surfing, chatting, sending email, searching online for information about colleges and schools, finding new recipes, paying bills, using internet banking, etc. Each participant housewife will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.
Suryanarayan. B, Director Sales & Marketing Group, Intel South Asia expressed the belief that, "mothers and home makers have the ability to shape the future of the entire family. Our program aims to give these wonderful people hands on experience of a personal computer and the internet in order to show them the underlying benefits of using technology for themselves and their families".
We think this is a really good initiative and a noble investment by the companies for the general wellbeing and progress of the society. What are your views about this computer-literacy drive?
