Microsoft: Xbox One Will Land In India In Late 2014

We still have a good year and a half with the Xbox 360.

Microsoft announced the pricing and availability details of its next-gen console — the Xbox One yesterday amidst a lot of fanfare. While pricing details for US, Europe, and UK, has been announced and the launch date set to November 2013, it vaguely mentions that the console will be available in 21 markets around the world. However, a Microsoft representative has said that it will not arrive in India until late 2014, which is a good one and a half year away from now. This will surely come as a disappointment to many who have been craving for the Xbox One. The only way to get one beforehand now will be to import it from the US, which may not be such a good idea if it is region-locked.

Sony, on the other hand, has been playing a game of catching up. While the Japanese manufacturer had announced its competing next-gen console — the PS4 in February this year. It had kept the design under wraps, leading to speculations that it was not ready yet. It gave out very few details about the PS4 then, and maintained radio silence until today morning. Now that the details about the Xbox One are out, Sony has also revealed the design and pricing details of the PS4. The company has said that it will be priced at $399 (Rs 23,300) in the US, £349 (Rs 29,900) in the UK, and €399 (Rs 30,700) in Europe. Unlike the Xbox One, the PS4 doesn't put restrictions on gamers, so they can play rented or used games, and even lend games to their friends. With a price tag that is at least $100 less than that of the Xbox One, the PS4 can win this race if it makes the console available worldwide by the end of this year. We have contacted Sony reps and await details about the India launch date.
