Google Keyboard Hits The Play Store, Features Gesture Typing
This free to download application provides a Nexus-like typing experience, along with exposing users to voice typing.
Google has released its standalone keyboard app for Android 4.0 and above versions of mobile-phones and tablet computers, and the Google Keyboard app is available for free download from the Google Play store. The most important feature that Google Keyboard gives to users is Gesture Typing.
Gesture Typing is a technique which enables users to form words by just gliding their fingers from letter to letter. A space can be inserted between words/letters by just lifting the gliding finger. By the way, Google provides its Keyboard app, in its Nexus devices. Now with the extending of the Keyboard app to various Android devices, a large number of users can familiarize with not only Gesture Typing, but also with a different typing experience.
Since Google encourages feedback from its users, there are chances that we would see new Android 4.2 enhancements on the lines of the Google Keyboard made available to all users.
As of now, Google Keyboard supports the English language, but Google says that newer enhancements to support other languages would soon be embedded within the application. We feel that the Google keyboard is worth a try, especially if you are not happy with the current keypad/keyboard of your Android device. Also remember that you can remove Google's Keyboard app at any point in time, if you are not happy with it. A brief feature-list of Google Keyboard application, for users of Android 4.0 and above:
- Gesture Typing
- Voice Typing
- Dictionary support for 26 languages
- Advanced layouts for keyboard
- Next-word suggestion and current-word completion feature built-in
