Intel's Love For Super-Heroes Reboots The Atom
Intel replaces their Pentium and Celeron lineup with New Atom architecture
In line with endless Super-Hero reboots, Intel's top management, more specifically the current CEO in an upbeat announcement revealed plans for an Atom Man (Super-hero) Reboot, as a homage to the yesteryear golden age of comic books to which he was an incredible fan of. While this may sound totally false, (which it is) ironically it is not too far away from the truth.
Intel, always looking to find a new way to pull a rabbit out of their hat, has annouced that they will be shifting their low-powered Celeron and Pentium chips to the even more low-powered Atom microprocessor architecture code-named Bay Trail on the 22-nm (Silvermont) fab process.
Intel doesn't want to limit the Atom based Bay Trail chips only to smartphones, tablets and netbooks called Bay Trail-M (mobile) but wishes to share the love with their larger counterparts Bay Trail-D for desktops, said Intel spokeswoman Kathy Gill.
This as Intel believes will prove to be their new Super-Hero chip, which while costing them less to manufacturer and maintain several different chipset lines; will be also (as Intel claims) up to three times faster and five times more power efficient than older Atom cores. Seems like a win-win for everyone!
We are still a long time away from pricing for the Bay Trail processors. Watch this space for more info on your micro-processor updates.
